Personally I don’t believe in paranormal activity. A lot can be explained by our own minds and imaginations playing tricks on us with our fight or flight response to danger. If you go into an old building that is “haunted” you have a hightened level of emotions and a greater fear response so your mind plays tricks on you. I am not a psychologist so can’t really explain it well. But I hope that helps

I think there a lot of things that are hard to explain and I think we don’t understand enough about consciousness and the brain to say one or the other! I don’t think that ghosts as they are shown in films (think Caspar the friendly ghost) are real, but I don’t rule out paranormal activity as a whole. Paranormal activity is something that is really difficult to study and test (if it exists or not), so I think we should stay open-minded until we know for sure and focus on how we would test it and the things we can test!

A lot of the historical stuff that was claimed to be paranormal actually turned out to be scientific stuff that people hadn’t figured out yet. There’s a type of lightening called St Elmo’s Fire that sailors used to see, it was a ball of light that used to appear on the mast of a ship and they believed it was a message from God. This was explained hundreds of years later by scientists who revealed it was actually a type of lightening – the particles in the air would get energised by the electricity in the air and it would turn into something called a “plasma”.

So maybe a lot of the paranormal stuff people claim to see today is actually stuff that scientists will explain in the future!
