For me, the biggest challenge is to progress in my research. I always have to face the probability (quite high) that things won’t work as I planned. Then, I have to find solutions or possible causes of why that did not work. Negative results are important too though!

I am challenged by my work because it is too difficult to do in one day. It takes weeks and weeks of work to get through my problems. I do find it a bit exhausting, but I also really enjoy it too.

On top of that, research is difficult because you’re trying to find out something that nobody knows. This means that nobody can help you or tell you if you’re wrong! That means I have to really check my work and make sure I make NO mistakes!!

My biggest challenge each day is that I am very knew to programming and I am having to learn very quickly how to programme so I can help develop a really complex code and use it and manipulate it to do what I want it to do. This is on top of the science and research that I am doing as well!

Most days I find managing my own progress challenging! I can sometimes be a bit impatient, but good science can take a long time.
All the measurements to analyse are already there, but it’s processing the data and analysing it in a sensible way that can take up a lot of time and if you mess up, you have to start again! Sometimes setting my own expectations a bit lower can help with this. It’s challenging to write some computer program to analyse your data and set it going when there is something at the back of your mind going: “You better not have made a mistake here…”
