The Marina Trench is 11 kilometers deep, at the bottom the pressure is super high. This means it’s difficult for anything to live there without being crushed. That’s why there are biiig jellyfish down there and also plenty of microbes.

Why is this interesting? If microbes and jellyfish can live at the bottom of the Marina Trench then maybe aliens live at the bottom of the sea of Europa, which is one of Jupiter’s moons!!!

The marina trench is the deepest part of the ocean and we have not been able to explore the bottom of it yet, se we don’t know how deep it exactly goes. The problem with trying to explore it, is that the deeper into the ocean you go, the higher the pressure becomes. So we can’t send any humans and a lot of diving robots just can’t handle the pressure and get crushed by it.
The technology used to explore the deep sea is similar to what is used for spacecraft, only the pressure works the other way around!

James Cameron, the film director who made Titanic, tried to get to the bottom of the Mariana Trench and in doing so managed to do the deepest solo dive every at 10,898 metres deep. Thats nearly 11km. But the deepest dive in the trench was done by the US Navy to 10,916 metres in 1960, thats almost 60 years ago.
